ACEI NCATE/CAEP Connection
As recently announced, by the fall of 2015, ACEI will cease to serve as a Specialized Professional Association (SPA) for the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). We will be completing any work that we have begun as a part of our current duties and will fulfill all responsibilities that we have undertaken, including continuing program reviews, for the time being. We will support the work of CAEP until they have made satisfactory arrangements for the continuation of the elementary national recognition program.
ACEI has been honored to provide national recognition elementary programs for over 25 years. Although it is difficult to leave our SPA role we look forward to supporting the efforts of CAEP and teacher education in other ways in the future.

As of July 2013, the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) is the sole accreditor of educator preparation in the United States, serving more than 900 educator preparation providers accredited by NCATE and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). New CAEP standards for Accreditation of Educator Preparation have been developed by the CAEP Commission on Standards and Performance Reporting. CAEP staff are hard at work developing all the necessary supporting materials in order for the new standards to be ready for release in January 2014.
Educator preparation providers are reminded that their accreditation remains with NCATE or TEAC until such time as they come up for review under CAEP and, as such, should continue to use the appropriate logos to reflect their proper accreditation status. CAEP standards will become the norm as early as spring 2016 (date of self-study submission).
For more information related to the transition process please visit the CAEP website.
Congratulations to the programs
that have received accreditation.

If your institution is continuing to use NCATE standards for national
recognition in a specialized area, please contact your specialized
professional association for updates on the standards that are currently
in use. Many SPAs have new standards or are in the process of developing new standards. Please be informed that ACEI is currently developing new standards. To locate specific information on ACEI's standards for national recognition in elementary education please refer to:
