ACEI Member Edelina Lane, Executive Director of Lina Lane’s Learning Center, has completed an intentional comparative analysis, “Optimizing Student’s ‘Word Exposure’ in a Family Childcare Learning Home Environment Within the United States,” to examine the effectiveness of the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) in a family childcare learning home environment. The specific objective was to determine if GELDS increases the number of spoken words that children are exposed to in the environment. Findings show not only an annualized increase of over 2.2 million words, but also an increase of over 37,000 additional "provider and child conversations" as a result of using GELDS.
Lane was the 2015 Recipient of the Georgia Association on Young Children’s Family Child Care Provider of the Year and received an ACEI mini-grant to support her study. The report will be released in November 2016.
