FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ACEI Statement of Support for South Asia Tsunami Relief Efforts
Olney, MDThe devastating tsunami that struck 10 countries in the South Asia region on December 26, 2004, has resulted in the deaths of more than 215,000 people, one third of whom are children. Many of those who survived are left homeless and without adequate food, water, or clothing. The risk of starvation and disease is real. We are all deeply saddened by this terrible tragedy. The loss of so many children is especially hard to understand.
The Association for Childhood Education International Executive Board and Headquarters staff join ACEI members worldwide in offering prayers for the victims and our deepest condolences to the victims' families affected by this devastating event.
ACEI members who want to help are encouraged to contribute to UNICEF. Go to the official UNICEF website at www.unicef.org for information on how to make a donation to the tsunami relief effort.
The Association for Childhood Education International is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of the United Nations, having consultative status with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) since 1980.
