ACEI Elizabeth Breathwaite Student Leadership Award Guidelines
and Application Forms



Student Leadership Awards were established to help deserving students have additional opportunities for personal and professional growth. They are intended to honor both those who have made outstanding contributions to the development and extension of ACEI, as well as those who have made contributions to the advancement of children's education.

A student is defined as an undergraduate/graduate student, full-time during the academic year. A student may self-nominate or may be nominated by a Branch.

1. The Association for Childhood Education International will award $300.00 STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARDS to college students who are ACEI members in good standing and who wish to attend the Annual Conference the year the award is given. Priority will be given to those applicants who have not been awarded an ACEI leadership award in the past three years. Winners will be notified in January or February of the award year.

2. The criteria used to select the two finalists will include the following:
a. ACEI membership
b. Strong scholarship
c. Recommendations
d. Written expression
e. Interest in teaching/professional education/child-related occupations
f. Evidence of leadership and participation in professional, social, and civic activities
g. Local, state/province ACEI activities

3. Applications must reach ACEI Headquarters by November 15. Along, with your application, please mail or send via e-mail (jpg), a non-returnable photo.

4. The written response, not to exceed 500 words, shall be typewritten or printed.

5. The enclosed reference form (please copy) should be given to three references, to include:
a. Local ACEI advisor
b. State/province president of ACEI (if there is not a state/province president, this may be given to a person of your choice.)
c. A faculty member

6. The scholarship grants will be mailed directly to the student to be used to help defray expenses for attending the Annual Conference.

7. The student must have the financial ability to pay the rest of the Conference expenses and must actively participate in the conference program. Active participation at Student Committee meetings and special events is expected. The student should plan to stay the length of the Conference.

ACEI will:
1. Waive awardee(s) Annual Conference registration fee
2. Assign awardee(s) to the Student Committee
3. Recognize award winners through announcement in the ACEI Exchange and at the Annual Conference.
