The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Winthrop University is seeking an innovative and involved tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor in elementary education. The candidate will primarily teach social studies methods and will also teach other elementary methods courses as needed.

Major Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
- Doctorate in elementary education or a closely related field; social studies expertise required (ABD nearing dissertation completion may be considered at instructor level in a non-tenure track position).
- A minimum of three years recent teaching and/or supervisory experience in elementary grades is required.
- Record of successful teaching experience at the college level desired.
- Evidence of emerging or demonstrated scholarship.
- University experience preferred.
- Expertise in the use of instructional technology, e-learning and grant writing is desired.
- Expertise in working with diverse student populations (particularly English Language Learners) is desired.
Employment Conditions:
- A nine-month, full-time, tenure track position. ABD nearing dissertation completion may be considered at instructor level in a non-tenure track position. Salary commensurate with qualifications.

The Early Childhood Studies major is a vital and flourishing NCATE-accredited program focusing on the care and education of children from birth to age 8 in partnership with their families. We have closely aligned our program to NAEYC standards for the preparation of early childhood professionals and have achieved National Recognition status from NAEYC/NCATE. Our Early Childhood faculty work closely with the staff at our NAEYC-accredited, on-site Child Development and Family Center, which serves as a model teaching and learning site for early childhood majors. The major offers options in Early Care and Education and Teacher Certification N-3.
Duties & Responsibilities: Teaching undergraduate courses in early childhood with the average teaching load of four courses/semester. Advising undergraduate students, engaging in service activities internal and external to the campus, contributing to program development, and engaging in scholarly activities. Working closely with colleagues in the field. May supervise early childhood students in a variety of settings, including student teaching in area schools. Opportunities to teach at the graduate level are available.

Illinois State University, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, is pleased to announce two tenure track positions for Assistant professors specializing in Literacy Assessment beginning August 15, 2008. The Department seeks colleagues with the potential for strong teaching and research skills to join its growing faculty. Each candidate's primary teaching responsibility would focus on methods courses preparing undergraduates to teach and assess literacy. At the graduate level, teaching responsibilities might include advanced assessment, as well as courses in literacy theory.
The Master's in Reading Program is acknowledged by the Illinois State Board of Education and aligned with both International Reading Association and NCATE standards. The Department

The Early Childhood Program
The Early Childhood Program at Illinois State serves approximately 200 students a year. Illinois is one of few states which have state funded early childhood programming for three and four year olds as of 2006. This new state initiative requires teachers to have early childhood certification, greatly increasing the demand for early childhood teacher preparation programs delivered in increasing and innovative formats. In addition the program is initiating an early childhood specialization at the graduate level to meet the growing need for early childhood program administrators. As one of the largest preparers of teachers in the country and the largest in Illinois, the early childhood program at Illinois State is poised to provide the needed teacher preparation, training, and leadership to serve young children and families both at the state and national levels.

Infant/Toddler Instructor

Available January 2, 2008
Position Responsibilities: Twelve month, non-regular laboratory Instructor position beginning January 2, 2008. Responsibilities include: developing and teaching the Infant Toddler Development and Programs course and serving as Head Teacher in the Infant Toddler Laboratory Program, supervising staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in child development or early childhood education by hire date and two years experience working with infants and toddlers preferred. Minimum qualifications-master's degree in a related field by hire date and a minimum of five years experience working with infants and toddlers may be considered.
The Child Development Laboratory: The Child Development Laboratory has been rated among the top ten in the country, and enrolls over 90 children. It serves infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age children and operates year-round. The lab functions as a training and research facility for campus programs.
The HDFS Department: The department has 18 tenure track/tenured faculty members and instructors. It serves approximately 160 undergraduate majors and 50 masters and doctoral students. The faculty is a group of productive scholars studying areas including child care, development across cultures, development across the lifespan, family interaction and relationships, divorce and remarriage.
