United Nations ECOSOC Meets in Geneva

From July 4-20, 2011, Ministers and Heads of Delegations participated in the substantive session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in Geneva to discuss the theme, "Implementing the internationally agreed goals and commitments in regard to education."

Among the many topics discussed, girls' education, education improvement, and the financial need for quality improvements were included toward the commitment of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015. As a result of the high-level segment, a declaration was unanimously adopted by the 54-member Council recognizing that education is necessary for countries to flourish and to ensure progress towards the goals of Education For All.
