International Literacy Prizes Awarded

UNESCO has awarded its four 2012 literacy prizes to programs in Bhutan, Indonesia, Rwanda, and Colombia.  The programs represent government, NGOs, and faith-based organizations—all of them with a strong commitment to community learning and initiatives that target out-of-school students and adults.

UNESCO issues its literacy awards every year in advance of International Literacy Day on 8 September, to recognize the institutions, organizations, and individuals whose efforts contribute to the promotion of dynamic literate societies.

Representatives from their respective programs will be recognized at a ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters on 6 September as part of International Literacy Day celebrations.
