Global Partnership for Education Funding

Representatives from 52 countries met in Copenhagen, Denmark, this November as part of the first Pledging Conference of the Global Partnership for Education. The representatives gathered to make financial and policy commitments to achieve quality education for all children, including those who come from some of the poorest countries in the world. The Global Partnership for Education is the world’s primary source of multilateral aid for basic education. The partnership ultimately hopes to raise $2.5 billion, as funding to meet education targets of the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (e.g., universal primary education and aid levels for education) has decreased, creating more financial pressure on governments. The representatives hope to demonstrate leadership and delivery on the education promise to the world’s poorest children.
