Education to Prevent Conflict & Contribute to Peace
Education plays a crucial role for all children in preventing conflict and building a foundation of peace-building skills. Education can address the issues that lead to children facing conflict. A recent UNICEF report, The Role of Education in Peacebuilding: A Synthesis Report of Findings from Lebanon, Nepal, and Sierra Leone, found that education can play a vital role during both conflict and post-conflict periods. Education, the report states, is socially transformative and “pays a big peace dividend.” Peacebuilding is crucial in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and education is a leading contributor toward effective peacebuilding for children.
