COMMITTEES


Committees are the heart of the Association and their activities are central to ACEI's Strategic Plan. Please look over the following list to find the best match for your interests and expertise. Not only will you receive professional recognition, but you will be contributing to ACEI's efforts on behalf of children and the professionals who work with them. Please volunteer today.

  • Awards--Responsible for evaluating new award proposals; keeps ACEI's award program current with the needs of the membership; develops award guidelines and selection criteria; drafts appropriate application or nomination forms; select the winner(s) in each category and submits the name(s) to the Executive Board for final approval; assists Headquarters with efforts to promote ACEI's Awards Program. Members of the Awards Committee are ineligible to receive an award and they must wait at least one year after serving on the committee to be considered for an award. Term: 2 years. Limit: 12 members.
  • Conference--Assists with planning ACEI conferences and workshops; recommends changes/improvements in the Annual Conference format; selects/recommends outstanding speakers; serves as a resource for local conference committee members. Term: 4 years. Limit: 15 members.

  • Diversity--Focuses attention on diversity issues in education; encourages a more culturally diverse ACEI membership; recognizes accomplishments of ethnic and cultural groups; broadens our understanding of diverse populations. Term: 2 years. Limit: 18 members.

  • Emerging Educators--Represents interests of emerging educator members; assists in development of Student Branches; explores ways to retain student members once they graduate; helps gather information on students and Student Branch activities; prepares articles for the "Student Slant" column in the ACEI Exchange; networks with other students; prepares student newsletter, "Emerging Educator." Term: 2 years. Limit: 24 members.

  • Heritage--Gathers materials on leaders in childhood education/ACEI and information on programs/events in the Association's history; recruits biographical and feature writers; reviews/inventories materials for the ACEI Archives; works with the Executive Board and headquarters to promote a cooperative partnership with the archivist; encourages researchers' use of ACEI Archives; makes recommendations to the Executive Board on matters focusing on ACEI's history and archival collection. Term: Indefinite. Limit: 29 members.

  • Infancy/Early Childhood--Promotes desirable educational conditions, programs, and practices for children, ages 0-8; plans/implements activities around topics of concern to the membership; increases awareness of education policy and leadership issues in the global society; promotes international interaction of Infancy/Early Childhood; examines cultural views of childhood and its influence on early childhood education; drafts a formal resolution covering an important topic in education for discussion at the Annual Conference. Term: 2 years. Limit: 50 members.

  • Intermediate/ Middle Childhood--Identifies, promotes, implements, publishs, and report on current choices,issues, programs and best pactices for intermediate/ middle childhood students, ages 9-15; improves international communications among educators; drafts formal resolutions for discussions at the Annual International Conference as appropriate; initiates committee work in accordance with ACEI's Strategic Plan. Term: 2 years. Limit: 46 members.

  • International/Intercultural--Helps promote the Association worldwide; assists with conference planning internationally and facilitates interaction among members; assists in planning international programs for the Annual Conference; contributes an ACEI Exchange column; plans/implements activities of international/intercultural concern to members. Term: 2 years. Limit: 26 members.

  • Membership--Promotes membership recruitment, retention, and services at the international/state/local/student/Branch levels by networking with other ACEI committees, identifying new prospective members; and talking directly to educators and students about ACEI. Term: 2 years. Limit: 15 members.

  • Nominations--Seeks highly qualified candidates for election to ACEI Executive Board. Candidates should represent the diversity of the ACEI membership and possess the skills and experience neccessary to meet the Association's current and future needs. To nominate an ACEI member for the Executive Board review the qualifications for the position,complete an Executive Board Nomination/Application Form and submit it to ACEI Headquarters. Members of the Nominations Committee are ineligible to run for office and they must wait at least one year after serving on the committee to seek an Executive Board position.
    Term: 2 years. Limit: 12 members.

  • ACEI President's Council--The Presidents' Council is made up of Presidents, Immediate Past Presidents and Presidents-Elect of State, Province, and International Branches.

  • Professional Standards/Teacher Education--Identifies/reports on current teacher education issues; plans/implements activities around topics of importance to the membership; produces/identifies appropriate written materials on teacher education; participates in activities related to the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); prepares ACEI Exchange column. Term: 2 years. Limit: 30 members.

  • Program Development--Identifies successful programs/projects conducted by ACEI Branches and promotes their replication; assists with promotion/utilization of the ACEI Branch Manual; plans/implements activities that address key issues; prepares a column for the ACEI Exchange; establishes a resource center of materials from local, state, province, and international Branches for use by Branches for program development. Term: 2 years. Limit: 9 members.

  • Public Affairs--Identifies educational issues that are global in scope in relation to childhood education and the teaching profession; keeps members informed through a column in the ACEI Exchange; promotes goals/purposes of the Association; processes resolutions submitted for presentation at the Annual Business Meeting; plans/implements activities, such as Open Forums, that address key issues identified by the Association. Term: 2 years. Limit: 10 members.

  • Publications--Assists with review of manuscripts for ACEI publications; helps to identify timely topics, actively recruits writers and promotes a steady flow of highly marketable publications for sale and distribution; plans and develops committee meetings, Open Forums and special committee-sponsored activities at the Annual International Conference; helps the Association prepare Position Papers and editorials; promotes whole child/whole curriculum through publications. Term: 2 years. Limit: 40 members.

  • Research--Reviews/recommends proposals for research forums and/or symposia at the Annual Conference; guides Executive Board and Publications staff on research reviews and articles for Childhood Education and Journal of Research in Childhood Education; prepares a column for the ACEI Exchange; plans/implements activities that address key issues. Term: 2 years. Limit: 35 members.

  • Retired Members--Serves as a resource for retired members and represents their interests; assists with development of ACEI Branches; helps Association recruit/retain members; explores ways to involve retired members in leadership roles; plans activities for retirees at the Annual Conference; works closely with Membership Committee to facilitate exchange of information; encourages mentoring of students teachers; publishes "Retirees' Review" newsletter. Term: 2 years. Limit: 27 members.

  • Technology--Keeps ACEI informed of emerging technology developments as they relate to ACEI and makes recommendations of technology application for ACEI's benefit. Term: 2 years. Limit: 12 members.

  • Week of the Classroom Teacher--Promotes Branch activities to honor teachers and celebrate ACEI's annual "Week of the Classroom Teacher"; assists with development of promotional materials; serves as a clearinghouse for information; helps establish a committee at each Branch to coordinate local celebrations; assists with the development of an activity guide. Term: 2 years. Limit: 30 members.
