Student Leadership Award

Guidelines

1.    Award Description
The Student Leadership Award recognizes outstanding student members of ACEI whose leadership activities have been focused on child advocacy. Child advocacy efforts must demonstrate and reflect the mission, vision, and guiding principles of ACEI.

2.    Award Distribution
In addition to a financial award to help defray the cost of attending ACEI’s Annual Conference, each student receives a complimentary conference registration. The number of awards provided depends on available annual funding. Scholarships are typically $300 USD.

Applications are accepted from current university student and emerging educators who have been teaching for one or two years who are ACEI members. Applications are then forwarded by the Headquarters Office to the Awards Committee. The Awards Committee reviews and approves the finalists.

4.    Nominations
Those submitting an application should be able to:

  • Describe their leadership activities with a specific focus on child advocacy
  • Describe how their child advocacy activities reflect the mission, vision, and guiding principles of ACEI.
  • Examples of advocacy activities include but are not limited to those below:
  • Made visits to local or state legislators to present timely information in order to influence policy decisions that impact children
  • Held leadership positions in their university where they were instrumental in developing new projects and programs to support at risk children in their community.

5.    Requirements
Those wishing to apply must:

  • Be an ACEI member
  • Be a full-time enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program during the academic year, or an emerging educator in their first or second year of teaching
  • Describe child advocacy activities
  • Provide evidence of leadership and participation in professional, social, and civic activities.

6.    Restrictions
Student may only apply for one student scholarship, or grant, per year. For example, if you are applying for a Student Leadership Award, you cannot also apply for a Student Scholarship Award or a Presidents’ Council Grant. The ACEI Executive Board may not nominate individuals for this award.

7.    Due Date
The deadline for nominations to be received by ACEI’s Headquarters Office is DECEMBER 1st.

8.    Recognition
The award is presented at ACEI’s Annual Conference. When possible, the awardee will be  highlighted in ACEI publications or news.

9.    Application
