ACEI "Friends of Children Award"

 

Introduction and Application

A "Friends of Children Award" will be presented by the Association for Childhood Education International. The award was established to honor a non-ACEI member individual, who works outside of education, whose work has made a significant impact on the quality of life of children and demonstrates commitment to children on a national or international level.

The efforts of the nominee shall be reflective of the ACEI statement of purposes:

a. to promote the inherent rights, education, and well-being of all children in home, school, and community;

b. to work for desirable conditions, programs, and practices for children from infancy through early adolescence;

c. to bring into active cooperation all individuals and groups concerned with children;

d. to raise the standard of preparation for all of those actively involved with the care and development of children;

e. to encourage continuous professional growth of educators;

f. to focus the attention of the public on the rights and needs of children, and the ways in which various programs must be adjusted to fit those rights and needs.

PROCEDURES

  1. Nominations shall be submitted before or at the Annual Conference preceding the year of the presentation.
  2. One award will be given each year.
  3. Candidates may be nominated by any ACEI member.
  4. A completed nomination form must be submitted by Feb. 15 for the award in the subsequent year.
  5. Nominations will be reviewed by the Awards Committee.
  6. The award will be presented at the ACEI Conference.
  7. The criteria used to select finalist are as follows:
    a. personal philosophy shall include the purposes of ACEI;
    b. the nominee shall have had leadership and membership in national or international organizations dealing with the betterment of conditions for children;
    c. the nominee shall have made significant contributions in improving education and social conditions for the betterment of children;

Recipients are expected to accept the award in person at the Annual International Conference. If they are unable to attend, they should send a video acceptance of no more than five minutes. They may also send a representative to accept the award.
