Celebrate World Teachers' Day

The 5^th of October is World Teachers’ Day, which celebrates the pivotal role of teachers in the development and education of children.  Teachers serve as catalysts for growth as a child enters into greater society, building upon the nurture of a child’s family or primary caregiver.   However, even though teachers have a vital responsibility in the course of human development, teachers and the teaching profession struggle to command the respect and support necessary to effectively meet the needs of their students.  In many nations, teachers are challenged by difficult socioeconomic conditions, poor learning environments, diminishing resources, and low wages.  Yet beyond guiding their students toward their learning goals, they increasingly have to address the negative effects of a changing society within their classrooms.

This year’s World Teachers’ Day theme of Take a Stand for Teachers! rallies a collective voice for teacher support in the form of adequate training, sustained professional development, and protection of teachers’ rights and livelihood.  The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) is dedicated to the professional growth of teachers and, therefore, celebrates the importance of teachers’ contributions on World Teachers’ Day.  ACEI takes a stand for teachers and joins in the call for global support of those professionals who are committed to the needs of children.

Diane Whitehead, the Executive Director of ACEI stated, “If one wants to fully understand the impact of teachers on our world, just imagine one day without teachers. Teachers are the driving force behind education systems and the path to ensuring that children and youth have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
