Olney, MD, August 15, 2007--Members of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI), headquartered in Olney, MD, will participate in the United Nations 60th Annual Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organization (DPI/NGO) Conference on Climate Change. The conference, "Climate Change: How It Impacts Us All," will take place September 5-7, 2007, at the UN Headquarters in New York. ACEI representatives will listen, gather facts, and share vital knowledge that could impact societies worldwide.

This year's DPI/NGO Conference will focus on the facilitation of action plans that address the very real concerns associated with climate change and its profound and significant impact on human well-being. Evidence has been collected, documented, and examined that points to the potential devastation of our shared world. This conference will search for solutions by helping interested groups and individuals develop specific policies that can be implemented. The goal of the conference is to combine our knowledge of climate change in practical ways that will help to change poor practices and improve the environment for people worldwide.

Representatives from the United Nations, governments, NGOs, and other expert individuals will lead two plenary sessions, seven roundtables, and 32 midday workshops to review the most current scientific evidence on climate change, including its impact on vulnerable populations, water security, land use, and the politics and policies of energy.

More than 2,000 NGO and other civil society partners from 90 countries throughout the world are expected to attend the three-day event. ACEI, as a member of the United Nations' NGO Committee, has consultative status with the UN, and is actively involved with three committees: 1) The Working Group on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 2) The Working Group on the Girl Child, and 3) The Working Group on Education.

ACEI members work diligently to uphold the organization's mission: "To promote and support in the global community the optimal education and development of children, from infancy through middle childhood, and to influence the professional growth of educators and the efforts of others who are committed to the needs of children in a changing society." ACEI Executive Director Jerry Odland states, "ACEI recognizes that children are often most vulnerable to detrimental changes in environmental conditions and urges policy-makers worldwide to jointly search for solutions."
