Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI)
Congratulates Michael Geisen, 2008 National Teacher of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Olney, MD, May 5, 2008--The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) is one of the 15 national education organizations that select the National Teacher of the Year from among the state teachers of the year, including those representing America Samoa, the Department of Defense Education Activity, the District of Columbia, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The committee personally interviews each finalist before naming the national teacher of the year.

The National Teacher of the Year Program is the oldest and most prestigious national honors program for teachers, and focuses public attention on teaching excellence. President George W. Bush named Michael Geisen the 2008 National Teacher of the Year at a White House ceremony on April 30, 2008, in recognition of his enthusiasm, family-oriented schools programs, hands-on-science curriculum, and community spirit.

Geisen, a science teacher from Oregon, is the 58th National Teacher of the Year, and will travel nationally and internationally as spokesperson for the teaching profession beginning June 1, 2008. To learn more about the National Teacher of the Year Program, visit www.ccsso.org/ntoy.

"ACEI is proud to be a participant in the selection process for this prestigious recognition. The new 2008 Teacher of the Year, Michael Geisen, embodies the characteristics of so many wonderful, dedicated teachers across this nation," states Diane Whitehead, ACEI Acting Executive Director.
